BIOGRAPHY

(disclaimer)

I reserve the right to change…what I believe today, I may not believe  tomorrow….

I graduated with honors in 2002, from  the Capilano College Studio Art Program.

Since then I have been active in the local art scene doing numerous exhibitions, while developing a very intense relationship with a wide range of materials.

From my grandfather I inherited the pack rat philosophy for awhile, finding intrigue in some very strange found objects. O.K., I see beauty in what most people call garbage! A withered old piece of paper that has been driven over several times, text half hidden by accumulated stains. I do not wish to collect them and have them sit on dusty shelves, lonely for attention, homes for spiders. The things I choose must be utilized quickly into mixed media assemblages, unified with the addition of paint. There is a story to be told in the most subtle things, the overlooked, the unusual perspective…Each person has their own unique way to express themselves…that is where the interest lies…

For me, Art has become a path of exploration, about process and my relationship with my surroundings.  I am constantly changing, exhilarated by the endless information that surrounds me. I try and process what touches me, and it seems that these days there are endless things that do. This energy that flows around me will inevitably influence the outcome of what I am creating.

I am hungry with ideas and I tend to talk a lot about them. I have found out long ago that talk just ain’t no good with out the walk, so I work hard towards seeing the ideas come to life. I had the privilege of  planting the roots for the community building Seymour Art Festival in Deep Cove, which had its first successful event last year. This annual festival will continue to grow and gather strength in the years to come.

Now my focus has shifted to the Blank Canvas Collaboration Project. I am constantly pushing my boundaries with this idea. Each door that opens wide, sheds light upon a multitude of others. My belief is that artists are great explorers and I am I am honoured and humbled to be surrounded by some of the greatest explorers of our time.

I have a firm belief that it is through the strength and determination of the gathered community that profound goals can be achieved, and with focus and determination, great changes can occur. This gives me strength and boundless inspiration.
